I know I know. Your Facebook feed is filled up with it. You feel like everyone you know is doing it. But here’s the truth: Network Marketing is here to stay. Just check out this recent article.
I get it. How could watching someone work from anywhere, in their pajamas with a glass of wine, really be working? Isn’t work supposed to be in an office with bad lighting, with people you don’t like, during set hours, wearing uncomfortable suits and high heels? Oh and a cap on your income of whatever salary “they” say you can make?
Yep, that’s what I thought too!
Are there “bad” companies in Network Marketing? Sure! There are network marketing companies with products that don’t work, poor leadership, and no staying power. But wait, aren’t there “bad” companies like that in EVERY industry? Just like everything else, there are the good and the bad.
If you’ve been on my Facebook page lately, it’s no secret that I have partnered with the doctors that created Proactiv. I’m an Independent Consultant selling their newer line – Rodan + Fields. We have anti-aging products, products to help with sensitive skin, some to rid that pesky acne and even some to eliminate those awful sun and dark spots. Like many, or even maybe most, I wasn’t looking for this. I was working my 8-5 corporate job, living with sun damaged skin, and no worse for the wear. Then a friend asked me if I had tried it. Then she brought me a sample. Then after I took WEEKS to even open the sample she stuck with me and kept encouraging me to try it. Then something strange happened…I LOVED IT. Got on the phone with her to order it and she mentioned that I could get an even bigger discount if I was a consultant. Ok, that seems harmless enough. I thought I would just sell to my mom (thanks mom!) and a few others and make enough to pay for my skincare products.
But then my World changed. Little things at first…An invitation to a fellow consultants home to learn from each other and fellowship. A note in the mail from my upline with a coffee gift card for no reason other than they are glad I’m here. Information about how the company is giving back to communities and helping to make a brighter future for our young people. Great skin improvements. Oh and a little bit of money rolling in every month didn’t hurt either.
And then a BIG change. I was laid off from my corporate job of almost 15 years.
It has happened to people I know, loved ones, but never me. I felt sadness, panic, uncertainty. And boy was I glad I had already started this little Plan B of selling skincare because it was paying for my car payment and giving me a little breathing room.
Sometimes life isn’t what we planned. And you know what? Sometimes that is a great thing! I love where I am right now and I owe a lot of that to the money-freedom, time-freedom and community this business is giving me.Sometimes life isn't what we planned. And you know what?
