This week, I will officially close the door of my shop, Painted Poppies. We’ve been open for a few years – sometimes it feels like days, others it seems like we must have been at this for a decade! If you have ever owned your own business, in particular a retail business, you know it is a ton of work. I think some people have a glamorized view of it, thinking it must be nice to have your own shop with your own hours and be surrounded by all of those goodies. In reality, you work tremendously hard, usually for little to no pay and you can never really take a vacation mentally from it because it’s like a baby you are nurturing and growing.
My emotions are very mixed about all of this. Some days (or minutes) I’m relieved…in other moments, I’m sad and feel like a loved one is dying.
Other doors are opening – some I will walk through, some I will choose to close for now. I love this video of Oprah where she talks about Career, Life and and Leadership. In it, she talks about it being just as important to know what you do NOT want to do as it is to know what you want to do. Your job is to figure out why you are here, we all have a purpose. So I’m taking that job seriously right now…filling more of my time with personal development and preparing for my newly opened doors.
Do you like change? Many people are scared of it, hate it even. I tend to like it…obviously some change is better than others! But life is bigger than one experience.
Here’s to the next one!
