Unemployed? Think beyond your current situation

One of the contestants of a TV game show introduced themself as being unemployed.

Being a freelancer, I have always known that one has to market where they want to be, rather than where they are now.

I was slightly annoyed when the contestant said they were unemployed, period.

My question was "An unemployed what?" They didn't follow up with anything after that statement.  If they said they were an unemeployed ______, one would have some kind of context as to their experience.

It's true what they say. Whether you have a national audience, or are networking one-on-one, it's  important to point out what one can bring to the table, rather than where one has been.
